9th IYAS Writing Workshop 6: Silay Historical Tour

Labor Day kasi.

"Established by Mr. Cesar Locsin y Lacson in the circa 1920's and handed down to his daughter and now on its 3rd and 4th generation owners, El Ideal continues the legacy their grand father built."

The highlight: their 1920s brick oven.

  10. some wiki-research:

"The Balay Negrense was originally the ancestral house of Victor F. Gaston, a son of Yves Leopold Germain Gaston and Prudencia Fernandez. The elder Gaston is credited as one of the pioneers of sugarcane cultivation in this portion of the Philippine archipelago. A native of Normandy in France, he married a Filipina from Batangas where he initially began experimenting with sugar production before relocating to Negros."

now i remember, our Negrense co-Fellow mentioned something about a French owner, tama pala :)

  11. the outside is deceiving -- the house is quite expansive. medyo mataas nga lang ang entrance fee nila (i heard one of the seniors in our group complain about the high fees). oh well, at least it's for cultural preservation than repairs of an otherwise-okay road hehe.

  13. hmmm, i'm not really sure. i can't remember if these are from a previous or future exhibit in the art gallery. nakalatag lang kasi sila sa isang sulok, without any accompanying notes or description.
